ABSTRACT
Transitioning from music theory to musical practice is a challenging task. This chapter shows how activating students’ musical intuitions can help ease that transition. When students discover how much they already know about music, they become more confident in their ability to compose. Although this chapter focuses specifically on the sentence theme-type, the strategies it presents can be applied to other music-theoretical topics.
