ABSTRACT

Sonata Allegro Form: Understanding the Drama teaches sonata allegro form using the narrative arc of storytelling. It parallels a model of sonata form with narrative arc and further details the specific parts of a sonata and their role, both musically and dramatically. Using a Clementi sonatina and Mozart symphony movement as in-class examples, the sonata form is defined both in the score and aurally. The outcome for students is to be able to readily follow a sonata allegro form and clearly define its various parts.
