ABSTRACT

This is a case study of my work with a dyslexic student in my ear-training classes, centering around a pivotal moment of discovery during a sight-singing evaluation. Accommodations such as personal-use whiteboards as a tool for in-class dictations, changes to sight-singing evaluation methods, and assignments submitted in the form of digital photographs are discussed, as well as ideas for the instructor who wishes to better understand their dyslexic students’ needs. This chapter is intended to provide ideas and a jumping-off point for other instructors attempting to accommodate students with dyslexia and other Sensory Processing Disorders.
