Abstract

This chapter analyses the origins and theoretical underpinnings of the SECI model as a dynamic and dialectic process and shows the main theoretical and practical implication of the Socialisation, Externalisation, Combination, and Internalisation modes. In particular, it offers a systematisation of the organisational and managerial scientific literature on the types of knowledge and their interaction, the balance between internal and external resources of organisations to deal with continuous innovation as well as the increasing attention to emerging risks and opportunities regarding Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The main aim is to explain the contribution of knowledge creation to the development and growth of organisations.
