ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the advances in social work education and examines the opportunities and challenges in Pakistan regarding the professional growth of social work practice. The study encapsulates the understanding of all stakeholders like educators, students, NGO representatives, and discusses their narratives to understand the nexus between theory and practice. This chapter contains three sections. In the first section, the concept of social work in the Pakistani pedagogical context is discussed. The second section of the study focuses on a snapshot of professional development in Pakistan. In the concluding section of this study, the nexus between theory and practice is examined. Some recommendations are also included in the study. In this exploratory research, based on extensive interviews with social workers, educators, students, and practitioners working as various NGO representatives, an effort has been made to identify the missing connection between the theoretical and practical in Pakistan.
