ABSTRACT

Social work practice has been undergoing change and more so in the past year, which has helped practitioners, researchers, and academicians to relook at and reexamine the outlook and approach to curriculum, supervision, and field work practicum. It requires incorporating new arenas for education while simultaneously emphasising e-learning modalities and e-communication. New Frontiers in Social Work Education continued the much-needed debate on the indigenisation of the profession despite facing criticism from various quarters. There has been debate surrounding social work education and social work practice in India regarding its lack of relevance in the Indian context. In this pandemic-induced ‘new normal’, the world is going largely virtual, affecting both social work education and the field work practicum. So it is necessary to revisit literature wherein discussions and various researchers explore the pros and cons of virtual field placements and online field-based learning. Based on the above arguments, the chapter explores the current state of social work education, including fieldwork practicum in India.
