ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on analysing the role of the field supervisor in Chile, and the challenges that are faced in a context where social services have become precarious as a result of neoliberalist policies and new public management reforms. The Chilean context of social work is presented, along with a description of the current state of social work training and field practice education, placing particular importance on the field practice supervisory role. Subsequently, the social services and agency contexts are presented in order to understand the role of the supervisor in a neoliberal system. Finally, the challenges and future lines of research in the area are presented.
