ABSTRACT
This chapter provides a critical profile analysis of Pakistani civil society actors. Malik’s chapters focus on local actors—including non-governmental organizations (NGOs), trade unions, and various bar councils and bar associations—and their relationships with the state and democracy. For example, Malik argues that foreign-funded NGOs are often engaged in unsustainable projects, as donor priorities continually change, requiring the NGOs to either discontinue projects or close entirely.
