ABSTRACT

It is frequently echoed in the literature that the era of the Internet as far as electronic dictionaries are concerned was met with great enthusiasm. The Internet was expected to revolutionise dictionary compilation in the electronic age. To date this has not occurred yet. Many lexicographers express disappointment in respect to the pace of development of electronic dictionaries and non utilization or under utilization of innovative technology. In reality, they are voicing their concern because electronic dictionaries tend only to be old paper dictionaries ‘on computer’.
