ABSTRACT
The Chinese lexicographical culture has its deep roots in the socio-cultural settings which called forth reading primers written for school children in the Western Zhou Dynasty (1046 BC to 771 BC). The Ready Guide (Eyra《尔雅》), which was written between the Qin and Han dynasties (221 BC to AD 25), is generally recognized as the earliest Chinese dictionary in its real sense.
