ABSTRACT

Brunei Darussalam has embarked on an economic diversification plan, and one of its ambitions is to develop its tourism industry within the country’s framework of Sharia law. The relevant ministries have drafted the way forward for the plan as the oil and gas prices plunge while being the main source of income for the country. The chapter describes the nation’s plan, and explores current and future possible challenges and opportunities for the country in achieving its national economic goals through the tourism industry laced with the Islamic law and Malay monarchy’s heritage.
