ABSTRACT
Since its discovery in the United States at Fredonia, New York, in 1821, natural gas has been used as fuel in areas immediately surrounding gas fields. In the period 1920–1930, some long-distance pipelines were installed in the United States to transport gas from remote areas to industrial centers (Ikoku, 1984).
