Abstract

In the Brazilian component of a study entailing teaching children in four countries the songs of those countries in a cultural context, field observations and teacher and student interviews showed both the effectiveness of the audiovisual teaching materials and the teacher’s acquisition of PONTES competencies (Positivity, Observation, Naturalness, Technique, Expressiveness, and Sensitivity). Teachers revealed creative strategies and problem-solving aimed at motivating and organizing students to learn and present in public the new songs and cultural context. With stimulating materials and specialist support, generalist teachers can effectively organize singing and music activities in the classroom.
