Abstract

Mineral resources are abundant in the permafrost areas of Russia and Canada, especially on the Yakutian and Canadian Shields, as well as Central Siberia. Other important mineral resources are found in the Ural Mountains and the western Cordillera of North America. The deposits located close to where the markets are have been largely worked out, so it is now necessary to exploit those in more remote, cold areas.
