ABSTRACT

This is a typical case in which there is not yet available a translation of a literary text that is still relevant for today’s need of finding ways to communicate effectively among different cultures. Even though a rereading of a brief novel, Babel, el paraíso by Miguel Gutiérrez, is not enough, here we try to reflect on the possibilities and use of a utopian experience of intercultural communication. In the context of Latin American politics, this fiction is an ingenious satire of power, authoritarian regimes, and communal living. But it also celebrates desirable honest communication that advances glimpses of ecological consciousness as a crucial component toward an authentic dialogue among different subjectivities and collectivities.
