ABSTRACT

This chapter demonstrates through an analysis of 2009 interviews with 26 staff members of an environmental NGO active in Japan that ecomedia have nurtured the ecological identities of some of the research participants. Ecomedia have helped them construe themselves in relation to the Earth and raise their self-awareness by understanding nature. In this qualitative study, the ecomedia that have been identified as having had an impact on them include images reported around the Gulf War, the TV drama Tarzan, news reports on deforestation, TV images on conflicts, and the eco-film Born Free.
