ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses and evaluates extended critical studies of contemporary Pakistani anglophone fiction published since 2011. It argues that critical studies of contemporary Pakistani anglophone fiction focus on the deconstruction of an exclusivist and hegemonic national identity in contemporary Pakistani anglophone fiction and a reconstruction of this identity in a more inclusive national and/or global, cosmopolitan frame. While the chapter acknowledges and highlights the significance of this approach, it also raises some essential questions regarding Pakistani anglophone literature and its critical reception. The chapter thus aims to generate theoretical reflection on the critical reception of contemporary Pakistani anglophone fiction.
