ABSTRACT

This chapter explores how the important Broadway productions of Wolfe’s Shuffle Along and Cole’s The Shoo-Fly Regiment succumbed to the economic desires of white producers. How did Bob Cole’s documentary inspire Black people toward an emancipated Broadway circumstance? What happened in the cases of these two particular shows, produced in 1906 and 2016?
