A Reflection on the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff’s The Hip Hop Project

ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the writing and devising process of an original hip hop theatre production conceived by University of Arkansas Pine Bluff’s theatre program director Steven Broadnax and written by students. Not only did the production help to revitalize the John McLinn Ross Players theatre program at the university, but it also won a national showcase at the 2006 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival.
