Sleep is an essential function for children and adolescents to promote important developmental milestones in cognitive, behavioral, social, and emotional functioning. Pediatric primary care providers (PCPs) are well positioned to assess sleep disturbances given the recurrent nature of pediatric care. Assessment of sleep allows PCPs to provide children and families with diagnostic clarity and pathways to promote early intervention to reduce sleep difficulties. This chapter describes brief assessment tools that can be implemented by PCPs during pediatric visits. Screening tools are described with focus on how measures can be utilized in primary care settings.
