ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the relationship between the Oxus Civilization and the Indo-Iranian borderlands. The material evidence is reviewed including recent discoveries and analyses, and this relationship is addressed through three much-debated aspects: (1) the origins of the Oxus Civilization; (2) the nature and interpretations of the Oxus-related material evidence outside of Central Asia; and (3) the purported impacts of the Oxus Civilization on the Indo-Iranian borderlands: the spread of violence, language, and religion.
