ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the available data on the imaginary world of the Bactria-Margiana Archaeological Culture (BMAC) population. Because of the absence of writing, one has to look into its material cultural features, which are deeply rooted in the previous Anau-Namazga culture. Anthropomorphic figurines and decorative patterns on vessels or on seals are the best sources of information on this subject and give us a glimpse at the local beliefs, which differ greatly from the foreign pantheon only visible on elite artifacts.
