Don’t focus on the costs. Examine the activities that drive costs. Look at all the reports and ‘services’ the overhead departments provide to their ‘clients’ (typically inside the company). Examine how useful these end products really are. Look for ways to reduce, eliminate or streamline the end products, or the activities that generate them.
