Image Theatre (IT) is one of the core practices in the arsenal of Theatre of the Oppressed (TO). Boal describes IT as a theatrical language that lets participants use their bodies to take on the role of subject within the aesthetic space and to discuss oppressions that affect them, thereby furthering the spectator’s “transition from passivity to action” that is the main goal of Poetics of the Oppressed. 1
