ABSTRACT

Governments, National Governing Bodies (NGBs), and professional sporting organisations are forever searching for the ‘golden bullet’ that will bring international sporting success. In addition, but just as importantly, they seek the extra benefits linked to the generation of revenue, national pride, and increased sporting participation. This ‘search for solutions’ is situated against an environment of increasing competition, however; particularly evident in the Olympics where nations have invested heavily but are still competing for the same number of medals (circa 300).
