ABSTRACT

Following a moderately successful career as a snowboard athlete, Tom transitioned into coaching in New Zealand first at a regional level, then at the Torino 2006 Winter Olympics in the new Olympic sport of Snowboard Halfpipe. He moved on to coach across the Freeski and snowboard spectrum, helping athletes to achieve success at major events including FIS World Cup, Global Open Series, X Games, and other major events. Tom now works as Head Coach for Snowsports New Zealand (SSNZ)’s Park & Pipe programme, heading up a growing and successful team which secured two medals at the 2018 Winter Olympics – New Zealand’s best ever Winter Games performance. In his ‘copious free time’, Tom works as a heli-ski guide (on a snowboard) and relaxes by climbing mountains then snowboarding back down them!
