ABSTRACT
A general conclusion is inappropriate for such an extensive and varied collection of essays, even if it has revolved around a common theme. We have taken the topic of migration and development which, perhaps more implicitly, was an underlying theme of so much research into migration from its earliest days but which, towards the very end of the twentieth century, emerged as a much more explicit and politically sensitive issue.
