ABSTRACT

Dance science is the scientific study of dance and dancers through the subject areas of sports science such as physiology, psychology, kinesiology, and biomechanics. This is the generally accepted definition; however, it is one that does not encompass the extending boundaries and shifting foci of the field. Dance science has been described as merely a systematic tool through which to deepen our knowledge of dance. While this broader definition lacks specificity, it might be more appropriate in describing a field that to some degree lacks classification and is expanding quite quickly.
