ABSTRACT

How do firms manage their human resources to foster workplace innovation and job quality in the European business context? How does the European Union’s (EU) integration facilitate these aims and impact the management of human resources? These questions have become all the more pertinent in the current economic juncture, when the European economy is recovering from a deep recession. Yet, the challenges posed by the external business environment continue to threaten the level of job quality in Europe. The world of work in Europe is about to be disrupted by a double blow: a new phase of globalisation and an unprecedented wave of digitalisation. In the face of these challenges, it is important to assess how the macro-level EU regulation responds to these challenges and interacts with national HR practices and strategies.
