ABSTRACT

The self-determination of women and girls is a basic objective of development-based measures. Yet this relates not just to the participation of girls and women but rather to their equality. Sport and movement-based projects have the capacity to shatter stereotype expectations and to call socio-cultural role behaviour into question. This should also go hand in hand with the goal of enhancing the participation of women and girls in public life, for in many countries women and girls tend to be marginalised within society, they are denied access to education and violence against them is trivialised.
