Renewable energy has been one of the fastest growing sectors across the energy space since the turn of the century. Much of this growth has been supported by regulations and policies intended to incentivize this form of production to meet myriad goals in the form of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, stimulating job growth, and reducing risk from commodity price volatility. This chapter discusses the evolution of these efforts and their ultimate efficacy in both the electricity and transportation sectors.
