ABSTRACT
This chapter analyses the second home phenomenon in Croatia and Slovenia in the context of other former socialist European countries. Contemporary second home development is examined in Croatia and Slovenia in the time of socialism and in the period of political and economic transition, as well as the recent context of the market economy. Based on an analysis of data from the last two censuses in 556 towns and municipalities in Croatia and 210 municipalities in Slovenia, the study observes contemporary second home development in individual physical geographical regions and by specific types of second home areas in both countries.
