Abstract

Industrial war is a multi-sensorial experience that unleashes a plethora of emotions onto and within those affected by it. Drawing on a variety of case studies and adopting an ‘archaeology of the senses’, this chapter seeks to better understand both the sensorial worlds of soldiers and the potential sensory responses from archaeologists exploring armed violence and the various ‘sensescapes’ it creates.
