ABSTRACT
This chapter provides an overview of sensory archaeological studies of the Classical world, most of which are very recent, highlighting existing and forthcoming projects which have made and are making important contributions. It explores resistance and challenges to the adoption of new disciplinary methods within this field, suggesting that these are attributable to the traditional training of Classical scholars. It then addresses the benefits that sensory archaeology brings to Classical Archaeology, most significantly the promise of a paradigmatic shift towards a more inclusive discipline with continued relevance to the contemporary world.
