ABSTRACT

Any assessment performed with a modelling tool should start from a comprehensive overview of the problem taking into account the single elements as well as their interactions. This preliminary evaluation is the first step before choosing the degree of detail for a modelling effort. Therefore, modelling the different nexus linkages from a macro-economic standpoint is a challenge that should carefully consider the issue from different angles. This chapter describes the recent modelling efforts tackling the nexus with different approaches and from several viewpoints that include direct and implicit links with the resource nexus as well as with a wider context of the nexus used in those frameworks. It is not intended as an extensive literature review but as a systematic review of the diverse methods used in combination with the main elements of the nexus susceptible of being modelled in a macro-economic approach. These elements constitute a subset of the broad nexus definition including interlinkages presented in Chapter 1 of Part I of the handbook. Therefore, the review takes into consideration the broad model categories which have been used for the modelling task in the current literature.
