Bilingual translation of legislation has always been, and will continue to be, a challenge for any legal translator regardless of the proximity of the source legal system to the target legal system and the typological distance between the source and target languages. This chapter will introduce a project for translating the new Czech Civil Code into English, focusing on its preparatory stage, namely determining the scope and depth of a jurilinguistic comparative analysis that precedes the translation, selecting a relevant research methodology and providing practical examples of its application.
