ABSTRACT

Since the Chinese Communist Party came to power in 1949, the political leadership of the party, thus of the state, has undergone three generational changes: from the leadership headed by Zedong Mao, to the one headed by Xiaoping deng in the late 1970s; from Xiaoping deng and his colleagues to the leadership headed by Zemin Jiang in the early 1990s; and from Zemin Jiang and his colleagues to the leadership headed by Jintao Hu from 2002 to the present. The current leadership headed by Jintao Hu is the fourth generation of political leadership in the People’s Republic of China.
