The incarnation is the central Christian doctrine that states that the Word (the second person of the Trinity) assumed a human nature in addition to his divine nature. Cartesian dualism (CD), roughly speaking, is the view that human persons are essentially immaterial souls, contingently attached to the parcels of matter known as bodies. In this chapter we examine whether the doctrine of the incarnation can be explicated in terms of CD.
