The analysis of the art of al-Andalus within the broad context of the Islamic world has led to a better understanding of the forms and meaning of the preserved Andalusi art works and monuments. The study of its late-antiquity inheritance, its sources of inspiration in the local monumental legacy, the Arab and Oriental roots and, especially, its continuous contacts and exchanges with other peninsular and Mediterranean areas throughout its almost eight centuries of life, enables the Art historians to set up new paradigms and to greatly enrich the vision of the culture and art of al-Andalus.
