ABSTRACT

Selecting trees for the urban forest is a critical consideration for the urban forester; the forester’s decisions affect the long-term performance of the forest. By definition, urban trees are planted in high traffic (both people and vehicles) multiple stress sites with adjacent infrastructure (Urban, 2008). Tree failure in such sites will be likely to result in property damage and/or personal injury. Thus, only tree planting stock of the highest quality should be planted. This chapter addresses only nursery stock quality standards; it does not address species/cultivar selection criteria.
