ABSTRACT

Fan studies and networked digital media have, in many ways, grown up together. From UseNet groups to fan forums, blogs to podcasts, vids to GIFs, Twitter to Tumblr, and beyond, fans have often been early adopters. The ease of sharing, remixing, re-appropriating, and otherwise communally constructing fannish meanings and culture has been a major incentive for fans to learn new skills and try out new platforms. Yet, these same platforms have excluded or marginalized some fans, such as those with disabilities.
