ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the media system in contemporary France and the contribution of the media to presidential election campaigns. The first part examines certain key aspects of France’s hybrid media system in which ‘old’ and ‘new’ media fulfil different but mutually complementary functions. The second part concentrates on selected features of the role of the media in presidential elections, with a particular focus on the most recent contest in 2017.
