ABSTRACT

In the past decade, empirical research on a number of virtues, including humility, has expanded. Positive psychology has placed a special emphasis on the study of character strengths and virtues. A significant publication is this area is Peterson and Seligman’s (2004) Character Strengths and Virtues: A Handbook and Classification. These authors identified six core virtues and twenty-four strengths of character that contribute to individual fulfillment and help cultivate “what makes life worth living” (Seligman & Csikszentmihalyi, 2000, p. 5). In doing so, Peterson and Seligman provided a comprehensive statement on the positive psychology of virtue.
