ABSTRACT

This chapter aims to examine the political system in Korea. First, we overview the changes of the power structure in Korea, tracing the historical evolution of constitutional changes. Then, we explain the institutions of the Executive, the Legislative, and Judiciary, which constitute the Korean government under the presidential system. We demonstrate how each body is organized, and briefly review the electoral systems. Lastly, we analyze the peculiarities in Korean presidential system, focusing on checks and balances in the presidential system.
