Abstract

In this chapter the author argues that the plurality of S??khya traditions is much larger than what is often presented as S??khya in academic literature on Indian philosophy. Plurality characterizes not only the early history of S??khya but the later history of S??khya and the contemporary situation as well. The author argues that there have been several traditions of S??khya with more or less parallel doctrines, and that in addition nondifferentiated S??khya has continued to be an important trend of thought in large parts of the Hindu mythological and theological traditions.
