ABSTRACT

In the penultimate episode of Twin Peaks: The Return, the 2017 Showtime continuation of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s seminal series that first aired on ABC in 1990 and 1991, FBI Special Agent Dale Cooper, played by Kyle MacLachlan, revisits the Washington state town of Twin Peaks where the original series was set (episode 17, “The past dictates the future,” original air date September 3, 2017). Having himself only recently “returned” from a kind of twenty-five-years stasis, Coop discovers his evil doppelganger, the malicious Mr. C. (also MacLachlan), prostrate on the floor of the sheriff’s office and witnesses a supernatural confrontation as a glowing orb containing the face of BOB, the malevolent spirit from the original series (Frank Silva) squares off with a green-gloved young man with super strength (Freddie Sykes, played by Jake Wardle) who shatters the orb. And then things get strange.
