ABSTRACT

The feminization of migration is seen in that nearly half (48.2 per cent) of international migrants in 2015 were women (United Nations Population Division, 2015). Women are also principal migrants and do not only migrate accompanying their nuclear families. A large number of women migrate alone for domestic work in the care sector (Piper, 2013). In some countries like Vietnam, women migrate for cross-border marriages (Yeoh et al., 2013). At other times, it is the woman’s job which triggers the migration of her nuclear family (George, 2005).
