ABSTRACT

This chapter examines the work of the organisation StreetGames, which is a UK-based charity launched in 2007. StreetGames aims to bring sport to the doorstep of young people living in disadvantaged communities and in so doing ‘change sport, change lives and change communities’. The insight documented in this chapter is based on this experience viewed through a lens informed by broader debates around young people’s participation and active citizenship. Such debates indicate that, despite considerable efforts, children and young people are still excluded from much of the formal decision-making that impacts on their lives.
