ABSTRACT

Although there is not a long-standing set of literature on the role of regional organisations in supporting disaster risk reduction (DRR), including addressing climate risks through climate change adaptation (CCA), a number of comparative studies have been published in the last several years, looking at the roles that inter-governmental regional organisations have played in supporting DRR/CCA capacities at national level (Ferris and Petz 2013; Hollis 2015). In addition, the United Nations International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (UNISDR) has published a series of reports outlining regional achievements toward the Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA) that also highlight action and contributions of inter-governmental regional organisations on DRR (UNISDR online collection of regional progress reports).
