ABSTRACT

The conceptual framework used in this chapter places climate change within disaster risk reduction (DRR) as a subset of multiple disaster risk drivers; and climate change adaptation (CCA) as one of multiple DRR processes. In turn, DRR is placed under the umbrella of sustainable development. Health is treated as a cross-cutting theme and the health effects of disasters (both climate and non-climate related) are reviewed. Clearly, the causal relationships between the different areas of policy activity discussed in this chapter are bi-if not multi-directional.
